The Pender Experience:
The Pender Islands are known for their friendly people, many walking trails, scenic parks and beach accesses--perfect for romantic picnics or just that spot needed to recharge your batteries. Bicycle rentals, kayak and marine sightseeing tours are available.
On the island three large fundraising campaigns in the past few years have built community spirit and have raised money both to purchase and preserve two sensitive natural areas on the island and to build a unique community hall. In another community project, called the Bear Mother Project, Pender women under the guidance of Tsimshian carver and artist, Victor Reece, carved the three welcome poles which stand at the entrance to the new Community Hall.
There is a growing art community on the Penders with galleries and arts and crafts studios for visitors to peruse. Craft items and local farm produce can be purchased at the Saturday Morning Markets, where you can meet the growers/creators, kibbitz and enjoy the scene. The Market goes from the May Long Weekend until November.
